The rules of a universe
Each universe has its own rules. A story is tied to none: you choose how to experience it at each table.
A universe, a way to play
A universe sets how a story plays: how the dice roll, how hard the world is, which mechanics are in the game.
A story is never tied to one universe. It asks for some mechanics, and it plays in any universe that brings them. You can also create your own universe by choosing and tuning the available mechanics.
Three official universes
Light is the one to begin with: a twenty-sided die, six skills you place yourself, few things to manage. Simulation goes deeper: a hundred-sided die, trades, skills that grow, hunger and rest to watch.
Simulation – Hardcore adds lasting consequences to Simulation: lasting injuries and final death. It is available, but not recommended to begin with.
You choose at each table
When you open a table, you choose how to live the story, and the universes recommended for it come first.
The story itself does not change: another table can experience it in another universe.
Where to see them
Each story page lists the mechanics it needs and the universes it suits. Open a universe to read what it brings.
Our rules are inspired by OpenQuest 3.
